Planet Asia and his clique Gold Chain Military are on that level where they can reach out to any producer in the game for a beat…or a whole album, for that matter. I mean, come on, Durag Dynasty had a whole project produced by The Alchemist, and there has been rumors of a full Medallions album conducted by Pete Rock for a while now. But here’s the thing, their in-house production team, DirtyDiggs, have gradually become just as in-demand as any of the ‘90s greats. These two Filipino brothers, JR and Noy One, are not afraid to get their hands dusty, as their name suggests. And the way they flip jazz and soul loops is not something that can be taught.
Within the last 9 years, DD have transitioned from producing a couple songs on any given Gold Chain project, to partnering with a multitude of emcees for full albums. Their CD with Agallah, Flight of the Cranes, is a slept-on classic and last year’s Dirty Planet with Planet Asia was easily as ill as Anchovies, his acclaimed collabo with Apollo Brown. SPITGAN recently got a chance to chop it up with these sampling siblings and dig a little into their history behind the boards.
SPITGAN: What were yall doing before you got down with Planet Asia and GCM?
Noy One: We were making beats for about five years before we met them. We were releasing mostly instrumentals.
JR: Yeah, we did a couple songs with other people. We did a song with Percee P and we did a song with Roc C. Thta’s about it before we met Planet Asia and them.
SG: How did those collabs come about?
JR: I just hit ‘em up through Twitter…or whatever it was. Maybe 2010-ish.
NO: Might have been Myspace actually.

Kamasi Washington releases a beast! 16 songs for your listening pleasure. I have only gotten through half of this opus but its amazingly light and uplifting in sounds. Definitely carries a Pacific Jazz influence perfect for cruisin’ ya kna? The opening track, ‘Fists Of Fury’ sets a funky tone and if you ain’t in the back seat by, ‘Testify’, you better check if you soul.

You know those situations where the story in your imagination is betta than reality?! On first look this is one of them. This collection is bongos! Really impressed with the Dolce & Gabbana SS17 collection for men. It’s a complete 180 from the nosedive of the recent past. I thought this was inspired by Latin jazz, but in truth it was inspired by the first meeting of Dolce and Gabbana, at a club called No Ties. The song ‘Africa’ by Toto was playing, Domenico Dolce vividly remembers and that’s that! So the real ain’t so bad. The cuts and looks make me think of the very flamboyant cultures of Latin America, and the patterns are just buggin’. I dig the madness mucho! Salute and here here to the new energy of Dolce & Gabbana!

1) Spurs Vs Cavs. What a game! LeBron and Kawhi went at it a good part of the 48. Kawhi with 41? Career high, and walks away with the Dub in Cleveland no less?
Other fun game within a game match ups included David Lee Vs Kevin Love. David Lee was like a precursor to Love’s game no? Eerily similar, prob more range for K Love.
The future looks bright at PG too for the Spurs. Rook, Dejounte Murray had himself a game of note. Lanky 6’5″ PG damn!
2) Tom Thibideau you gotta stop screaming my man. You ain’t gonna have a voice after this season. Scratch that. After the All -Star break. I’ve watched like 2, 3 games with the Wolves this year so far and you can hear Thibs barking the full 48 minutes OVER the broadcasters. Chill, we’d like you to be in the L a long ass time.
3) After lacing into Brook Lopez for low rebounding numbers, you know who else has never averaged a double double points/boards? Marc Gasol. Yeah that’s right. Surpise, surprise. A fav here at the ‘Gan. How is that possible. At least it’s somehow lost in the Grizzlies’ winning ways. He’s doing a pretty low 6.1 per game this season. Ugh.
