The International Wool Secretariat fashion design competition was the precursor of The Woolmark Prize. The winners in 1954, and pictured are Karl Lagerfeld, 21, best coat, with a yellow, collarbone cut jacket, and eighteen year old, Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, later Yves, winner for best dress. “A dress too dazzling to wear twice”, was a dress that enveloped the shoulders in a seductive black sheath. The rest is history.
