MODEL ALERT : HE CONG

Who is He Cong?

A familiar Asian face I kept noticing as I was scrolling through brand after brand’s runways, was the uniquely cute He Cong. According to The Fashion Spot, the China doll walked the most shows for any model of colour last year, during autumn/winter 17. While many designers and agents still prefer using mainly white models for catwalks, He Cong was definitely one of the stunning Asian faces that have helped lead a movement in encouraging to feature more colored people in catwalks.

MODEL ALERT : FRAN SUMMERS

Who is Fran Summers?

18-year-old Fran Summers was first widely noticed in JW Anderson’s London Fashion Week show, she walked out confidently wearing a colorful striped sequined dress, with her hair in a bob and bangs clipped sweetly to the side.

Fran’s modeling story started in a MAC makeup store in a mall. Fran says “I was chatting with one of the make-up artists called Naima, and she asked if I had ever thought about modelling. I said no, and she insisted on taking me in to see some agencies herself on her next day off. The only one she had heard of was Storm so she said we’d start there and see how things went. I walked in and they offered me a contract on the spot!”

Interestingly, Storm Model Management made the careers of Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, and had supermodels like Jourdan Dunn, Anna Ewers and Cindy Crawford in their books. So Storm is a pretty big deal, and they know what to look for in a rising star. Fran’s agent Chris Yiannoullou explained that Fran’s similarity to a young Natalie Portman in Leon is what helped seal the deal. “Fran is young but nevertheless an old soul, effortlessly cool, stoic but still charming, all while sporting one of the sharpest haircuts in the industry.” And I mean just look at the way she rocks that haircut, it’s the cool girl hair I dream to have but will never be able to pull it off as well as she does.
