SUNDAY SCHOOL. COMME DE GARÇONS SS92 STILL ROCKS

It is true! Fashion is ahead of the curve. These looks from Comme De Garçons look like would fall right in with stylish women today, only that they were created in 1992! Chinese and Tibetan prints, checks, stripes etc, all mish-mashed together to stunning effect. The zipper usage looks ultra-modern as current designers try desperately to deconstruct and reconstruct something new today. Headpieces…

BOLD NEW WORLD. FABRIC MARKET

#ComeWithMe to a #BoldNewWorld. For our third adventure, host Hiu Wing, and SPITGAN Magazine would like to shine some light on the old district of Sham Shui Po. Home to many industries, we would like to spotlight its history as a fashion district, specifically a fabric sourcing area first. In these streets you will find everything you need for garment construction. It is such a grand story with so many characters, we want to focus on the, “欽州街小販市場 Yen Chow Street Hawker Bazaar“. This particular market has been around for 40+ years. It’s fabrics are mostly deadstock and run-offs from mills. Visually the exterior is protected from the elements by weather-worn tarps, but the interior is a chaotic labyrinth of fabrics stacked floor to ceiling. It’s claustrophobic and awe-inspiring at the same time. This is the equivalent to a record-digger finding a warehouse full of vinyl. It would take you days, even weeks to sort through this place.

“For me, I like walking around the Prince Edward flower market when I m free. To smell the fresh flowers, thinking which ones to buy and take home. There are so many options here to enliven the environment you live in! I enjoy roaming slowly through the stalls, browsing the wares and letting the freshness spirit away my imagination. As is most of Hong Kong, Prince Edward’s flower market is always bustling with people. Come for the colorful view, and also come for the shop keeps belting out their impassioned, sales pitches. Such beautiful contractions in this place!” – Hiu Wing

The hair and makeup for Yohji Yamamoto SS19 men’s collection was a dirty mess. Lookin’ like some bums on the street maybe? A coal-miner coming back from a days grind? Down with it. We ain’t afraid of a bit of dirt under our nails here at SPITGAN at all!
