新多倫多 音樂‧籃球‧城市/BUN DEM. TRACK BREAKDOWN, THE RAPTORS AND THE 6 GUIDE

Bun Dem – Lord Juco ft. Falcon Outlaw (prod. by Ol Man 80zz)

Interview : Nick D

We caught this track on the strength of FalconCrest being involved in the mix. Lord Juco’s name had a familiar ring already, having featured on Chong Wizard’s, The Power Stone EP. Ol’ Man 80zz? I swore Jordan C. had his production in a Top10EN, but it must have been his clever flip on the Zig Zag logo that got stuck in the mind! I digress.

To the matter at hand though, Lord Juco’s, ‘Bun Dem’ is a track that exemplifies a stylistic sound of Toronto. That Hip Hop inflected with a strong Caribbean/West Indies vibe. This banga is straight head nod with a minimal beat of 80% slap your skull up drums, and some sinister keys. Lord Juco sets it off callin’ an end to the fxckery he sees, ‘you hide like Anne Frank… put you in a hole like Hussein’. Big Falcon Outlaw fills throughout with his patois chant, and closes with a second verse reinforcin’ why you don’t bring it ’round here. This is some straight 90’s Smif N Wessun ish (Not a Toronto group lol)!

Since all heads were from the Toronto area. We figured why not get all hands on deck to share some insight on the track for ya’ll. Chop it up about some basketball since the Raptors are in the playoff hunt with some real possibilities, and just share a few down to earth recommendations about the city for you readers. Things like some spots to hit on a night out, and where to grab a hearty plate! A Hip Hop guide to Toronto, truly!

Lord Juco : Haven’t followed Ball in a long time, I catcha one two raptors games here and there, but can’t say I’m a fan.

Falcon Outlaw : I’m a big Raptors fan!

SG : Who’s your favorite player?
FO : Kawhi Leonard.
LJ : Tracy McGrady then, probably Kevin Durant now.
OM8 : I’ma definitely go wit Jordan on this one, but if we talkin’ Raptors then I’d say VC, Demar & the boy Kawhi. I definitely fuxs wit Lowry as well.

NICE TO HAVE. 070 SHAKE

Written by Tina Rateau (@blue_spiritu)

070 Shake (Yeezy’s protege) just dropped some fire that honestly resonated with me so deeply. Not gonna lie I put this song on repeat like 15 times before writing this (so you know it’s real LOL). On her new single ‘Nice To Have’, the 21-year old New Jersey singer/ rapper gives us chill reflective vibes. She reflects on how nice it is to have a ride or die. And she is right, it is “Nice to have someone to love you”.

BUN DEM. LORD JUCO FT. FALCON OUTLAW

Yes, I had to drop my two cents in on this one. This is straight Toronto essence right here. Tappin’ the roots of the black community with it’s heavy Carribean bloodlines, Lord Juco and Falcon Outlaw bring a rugged street update to that classic Toronto sound. That Saukrates, Choclair, Kardinal Official goodness. Shout out to my peeps Mr. Murray of the Grassroots, while we at it! Shout out to new Tizzo up in this cut! ‘Bun Dem’ produced by that dude Ol Man 80ozz. A slow head nod of a track, as they sound off they ain’t takin’ no shorts in the 19.

MAKE IT BETTER. ANDERSON .PAAK FT. SMOKEY ROBINSON

Written by : Tina Rateau @blue_spiritu

Is your vibe more old school? I gotchuuu! In his new single “Make it Better” (produced by Anderson .Paak, The Alchemist & Fredwreck) , Anderson .Paak links up with Motown OG Smokey Robinson to give us a song we can add to our ‘Sunday morning with bae’ playlist. .Paak recalls the better times of a relationship as he tries to improve it. He then proceeds to ask the most vital question: “Do you want to stay together?” Although Smokey Robinson doesn’t have a verse, you can definitely feel his presence in the vocals!

RAPTURE EP. KOFFEE

Written by : Tina Rateau @blue_spiritu

If you haven’t stumbled upon Koffee yet, let me put you on. The 19- year old Jamaican Dancehall singer has been making her mark in the reggae/ dancehall world with her undeniable talent. She definitely claimed a special spot in my Caribbean heart! Her EP Rapture is definitely worth checking out. Some honorary mentions off the EP are the following:

1- Rapture — Produced by Lassanna Harris
2- Toast — Produced by Walshy Fire & Izybeats (my personal favorite)

Check out her Rapture performance in the link below!
